Clough and Risegate Community Primary School is maintained by Lincolnshire County Council for boys and girls between the ages of five and eleven. Children will normally be admitted into full time education here in the September following their fourth birthday. The Published Admission Number ( PAN ) for our school is 13, which is the maximum number of places available in each year group. Our school originates from the 1870’s when the government made education for children between the ages of five and fourteen compulsory in England and Wales. During this time, many hundreds of primary schools were built and were staffed in a variety of ways, often depending on the size of the school and the population of the local area. Our school was originally led by Mr Charles Quarmby, the ‘Certified Master’ and admitted its first pupils on June 18th,1877. There were 9 children taken in on this first day and Mr Quarmby’s eldest son, Frederick, occupies pride of place as the first pupil in the admissions book. The family lived in the school house called ‘The Master’s House’ which is now home to our school library, offices and curriculum kitchen. Within its first year, the school had admitted no fewer than 172 children.

Over the years, the school has changed considerably. Although retaining the original Victorian building, further classrooms have been added and the facilities both indoors and out are very much in keeping with the demands of the 21st century.
