As the headteacher of Borrowdale School, I could not be more proud of everything that goes on in our school. The more I witness the sheer quality of teaching and the exciting activities on offer through the dedication of the staff and the consequential engagement in learning of all the children, the more I am convinced that Borrowdale School is truly unique.

Our uniqueness is a great source of pride and we defend it to the hilt. Everything we do in school is built on common sense, expecting the highest standards of manners and behaviour and focussing on our pupils’ wellbeing, attitude to learning and academic progress and achievement. We believe that learning and spending time at school should be fun and we strongly believe in using our amazing outside environment and have a well-established outside learning programme and lots of outdoor field trips.

Staff, supported by a committed team of governors, work very hard to deliver a rich and exciting curriculum that is rooted in quality texts and uses endless opportunities for meaningful learning and exploration.

The typical class size here at Borrowdale is around 10 pupils per class and we provide excellent staffing ratios in each class. This means that we get to know every pupil inside-out which helps us to support pupils on their individual learning journey – not just academic, but also social and emotional, alongside character development traits, to ensure that each child is fulfilling their potential.
