Great Tey Church of England (Controlled) Primary School is a small, friendly community school just outside Colchester.  At Great Tey, it is our strong belief that children learn best when they are happy, calm and engaged and we strive to give children experiences and opportunities which will engage their
interest, creating an environment which allows every child to flourish and achieve to the best of their ability.  Children here are well supported by a fantastic team of teachers and teaching assistants. Our children often say that “school feels like a family” – a reflection of the values of cooperation, support, acceptance and friendship that we seek to promote.

I feel very privileged to be the Headteacher of Great Tey Primary School: to be responsible for each child’s welfare, education and happiness is something I take very seriously. Every decision that we make is for the benefit of all our children and this enthusiasm and vision is reflected in everything we do.

At Great Tey we value high-quality teaching for children and are, therefore, keen to embrace new initiatives to encourage our children to succeed in everything they do. We are proud of our new Cornerstones Curriculum that promotes inclusion and encourages creativity, recognising that children are individuals and respond differently to different tasks.   We have recently grown from 3 classes to 4 in order to continue to teach children in small class groups, supported by a teacher and, in most cases, two teaching assistants.

Our current class structure (February 2023)-

8 Reception children and 2 Y1 children in Ducklings, taught by Ms. Lambert on Mondays and Tuesdays and by Mrs. Canning on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.  Mrs Reeve is the teaching assistant in Ducklings class every day.

11 Year One and  8 Year Two children in Sparrows Class taught by Mrs. Hogkins.                                           Miss. Roberts (M, T) and Mrs. Longman (W,Th, F) are the teaching assistants in Sparrows Class.

15 Year Three and 12 Year Four children in Robins Class taught by Mrs. Tucker.                                            Mrs. Atkins (M, T, W, Th), Mrs. Rawlinson (M, T, W, F) and Miss. Roberts (Th, F) are the teaching assistants in Robins Class.

10 Year Five and 10 Year Six children in Woodpeckers Class taught by Mrs. Overton on Mondays and Tuesdays  and Mrs. Amey on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.                                                                    Mrs. Baylie and Mrs Smith are the teaching assistants in Woodpeckers Class.

Our staff, governors, and parents work in unison to ensure that our children receive the best possible education, enabling them to develop academically, spiritually, emotionally, socially and morally.

Please do come and visit our wonderful school, which one parent recently described as a ‘hidden gem’.  We would be delighted to meet you and your children. The children at Great Tey are exceptional and we feel lucky to be a part of their education and future. We hope you will allow us to be a part of your child’s future too.
